The largest animal in the world - a blue whale - can be as big as a nine-story building. And Kitty's smallest bat is as big as a regular paper clip.
The animal world of our planet is very diverse. The Earth gives home both to real giants and small fragile creatures. All of them need our care.
The World Animal Protection Day is celebrated every year on the 4th of October. It aims to draw attention of large companies, politicians, and everyone on the planet to the need to protect the animals. The world has been celebrating this day for almost 90 years.
In the world of high technology it is hard to find a more helpless creature than an animal.
Today, more than ever, life of animals largely depends on human activity. Over the past century, more than 100 species of animals have disappeared from our planet, their population is in constant decline. Urban construction, deforestation, pollution are only a small part of human activities that can lead to extinction of some animal species.
Millions of people cannot remain indifferent to this problem. Only by uniting and combining the efforts the humanity will be able to preserve biodiversity of the planet and to maintain delicate balance of the ecosystem.
What do I do on the Animal Protection Day?
Don't be indifferent. Take part in activities, share information with friends and colleagues. Actions of each of us matter.
A variety of charity and educational events are taking place around the world on Animal Protection Day. Every one of us can make a fair contribution to improve animals' lives. The doors of shelters are always open for those who are ready to become a volunteer, donate money, buy food or adopt a pet. It is important to never forget that we are responsible for what we have tamed!

The water intake points of our power plants are equipped with effective fish protection devices that provide the necessary level of protection of water biological resources. The Konakovskaya GRES has special equipment to protect seagulls living right next to the power plant. It protects birds from getting entrapped into the working elements of open switchyard. In the regions of wind farms construction valuable fish species have been released into the Umba and Kuban rivers. Wind farms are designed taking into consideration the migration routes of birds.
Some of our employees are volunteers of animal protection organizations and help shelters.
We believe that everyone’s heart hosts love and compassion for animals, because often despite their size and sharp teeth and claws, they remain vulnerable in front of a man and the changes that human activity makes to the natural ecosystem.
