Enel sees the annual St. Petersburg International Economic Forum as a key business platform not only for business development in Russia, but also for sharing best world practices.
International forum in the Russian arena
The SPIEF is a global event in business and economics. It has been held in Saint Petersburg since 1997, with the participation of the Russian President since 2005.
Over the past 20 years, the forum has become a leading international venue for the business community. It offers an excellent opportunity for meeting and discussing key issues in the Russian and world economy, and development of new markets.
Innovations are getting closer
Enel Group has been Russia's active partner for over 10 years in innovations, including in the energy sector.
At the 2018 SPIEF, Enel CEO, Francesco Starace, and Enel Russia General Director, Carlo Palasciano Villamagna, presented the company's opportunities for successful partnership with Russian business and regions.
During the Forum, we signed two important agreements. The first is about an innovative system for storing electricity on Russian rail networks. Enel, through its advanced energy services unit Enel X (engaged in development of innovative products and digital solutions) and energy supplier RusEnergoSbyt, and joint venture between Enel and ESN, signed a Partnership Agreement with the Russian Railways. This is the first time this type of battery technology will be used in the railway industry. This development will improve the speed and efficiency of rail communication, as well as stabilise the Russian railway electricity grid, improve train traffic management, as well as avoid expensive grid upgrades.
“This project is an excellent example of how we leverage on our global presence to bring new and innovative technologies to our most important markets around the world. Today’s signing is an important event for Enel in Russia. This step allows us to diversify further our storage portfolio which delivers solutions tailored to the specific requirements of customers and their market”
The second key agreement was signed by Enel Russia's General Director, Carlo Palasciano Villamagna, with the government of Stavropol Region, represented by Governor Vladimir Vladimirov. The agreement is on cooperation in the development of wind power projects in the region, with a total capacity of 300 MW.
“The signing of this agreement marks an important step for the company. One of our production branches, Nevinnomysskaya GRES, is already located in Stavropol”
The forum is getting closer to the youth
While the company's top management was singing key agreements at the forum, our youth team Enel came second at the International Youth Energy Forum (IYEF), organized by Russian power company Rosseti. The forum, which is hosted in the format of working meetings, sessions, roundtables and presentations, is a key discussion platform for young energy specialists – future leaders of the industry – and an effective tool for integrating young people from different countries.
The key theme of the anniversary fifth forum is development of projects in the field of digitalization of electric power in the participating countries.
Teams comprising young specialists from Germany, China, Italy, Belarus and Russia presented their work to an international jury. After rigorous consideration, the project by the Enel international team was recognized as being important and essential in today’s world. The team was thereafter awarded an honourable second place.
What will we remember the SPIEF-2018 for?
Innovative projects, the signing of important agreements, the victory secured by our youth forum – this is what we will remember SPIEF 2018 for.
